Our Purpose
At LAUSD AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), our mission is to close opportunity gaps by preparing all students for success in college, career, and life. Rooted in equity, access, and rigorous academic preparation, AVID transforms school culture and equips educators to inspire and empower every learner to reach their full potential.
What We Do
LAUSD AVID supports schools in implementing the AVID College and Career Readiness System across elementary, middle, and high schools. By providing professional learning, resources, and strategic coaching, we help schools embed AVID’s proven practices into their instruction, systems, leadership, and culture. These strategies foster critical thinking, collaboration, organization, and a growth mindset in students while equipping educators to create inclusive, engaging, and rigorous learning environments.
Our Impact
Through the AVID system, LAUSD schools:
Increase student access to rigorous coursework, such as A-G classes, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs.
Empower Long-Term English Learners (LTELs) and multilingual learners with strategies that promote academic language development.
Cultivate schoolwide structures that support all students in becoming college and career ready.
Provide educators with tools and strategies to build a culture of high expectations and success.
Why AVID?
AVID isn’t just a program; it’s a movement that changes lives. By nurturing skills, confidence, and a belief in their ability to succeed, students who participate in AVID are more likely to enroll in and complete post-secondary education.
Whether you're an educator, student, family member, or community partner, LAUSD AVID invites you to join us in building brighter futures for all students. Together, we can ensure that every student has the tools, support, and determination to succeed.
